David John Fawcett of Binfield died suddenly aged 81 years on 28th May 2017. Former maths teacher, parish councillor, churchwarden and much-loved husband, father and grandfather David was truly an active and remarkable person.
David was our Treasurer for 9 years joining us at the Annual General Meeting in 2008. The Priestwood Community Centre finances at the time were in desperate need of an overhaul and David was just the man for the job. He sorted out all the problems, setting up routine procedures to keep us on track, and was always prepared with guidance on what was fair and sound practice.
A brilliant maths teacher and school governor, in retirement David was incredibly active in the community supporting a number of groups. He was a volunteer driver, Councillor for Binfield Parish, Bracknell Town (Priestwood Ward) and Bracknell Forest Borough for Priestwood at various times, as well as supporting the Gardening Club; and of course involvement with his beloved bell ringing for St Marks Church in Binfield, as well as the unstinting help he gave the New Priestwood Community Centre. He was a lifelong supporter of the Labour Party.
A thoroughly decent human being, David was a true gentleman, a devoted family man and very proud of his grandchildren and their achievements! What a phenomenal person!
David’s funeral service was held on Monday 19th June at All Saints Church in Binfield. As befits someone who had a remarkable impact on so may people from the local area, the Church was crammed with mourners who came to celebrate the life of a truly inspirational member of the community.
