Our club is for children aged from 3-10 year old with varied levels of language skills. We welcome complete beginners to fluent speakers.
'Školáčik' (Little Scholar) is a Slovak language club for children that is run in a fun and playful way. We meet every Saturday morning during school term times from 10 am to 12 am. Two hours are filled with various activities, which are led by native Slovak teachers. The main objective is to encourage children to communicate in the Slovak language while having fun making music, dancing, singing traditional songs and nursery rhymes, playing games, watching stories or listening to fairy tales, and creating exciting craft.
During the year we also aim to include the main events of the Slovak calendar such as Carneval, Easter, May Day, Harvest and St Nicholas Day in our regular meetings and try to show the children some of our Slovak culture and traditions.
Our club was set up by a group of Slovak parents whose dream was to teach children their beautiful mother tongue and to help them find their unique Slovak identity. We formed a voluntary not-for-profit organisation 'Slovak Parents in Berkshire' and opened our language club for children in 2011. Our regular Saturday meeting is not only enjoyable place to meet for children, but also for their parents. The club has become a venue where members of the local Slovak community can meet their friends, share their experiences, exchange advice (or recipes!) or just have a good old chinwag over a cup of tea and a cake.
Please write to us or call us if you are interested in enrolling your children. You are welcome to come and try a session for free.
